Vintage Portuguese Rug, Origin: Portugal, Circa: Second Quarter of the Twentieth Century – Here is a unique and beautiful vintage rug – a vintage Portuguese carpet that was woven during the middle decades of the twentieth century. Characterized by a soft pallet of earth tones as well as a classical composition, this lovely Portuguese carpet features lovely vegetal details throughout. The format of the carpet is very traditional: a wide border with a repeating pattern surrounds a rectangular field with a complementary pattern. However, while the proportions of this vintage carpet from Portugal are certainly traditional, its design and composition are unique and certainly possess a flair for the modern. The winding sea foam green ribbon that winds through the border is simple and inviting at the same time; its playful interaction with the green leaves throughout infuses the entire carpet with energy. Meanwhile, a grid of thirty-two individual circles populates the field, each one consisting of a light green ring, a dark brown center, and a beautifully drawn leaf of green. The carpet has an overall sense of unity and balance, and is a truly remarkable example.
