Labor Day Weekend in NYC by Nazmiyal Antique Rugs

Labor Day Weekend in NYC

Last week was quite a week for New Yorkers from earthquakes to hurricanes to going on a tri-city excursion to find a flashlight, batteries, and bread. All of the antics we went through will hopefully be in our rear view mirrors as Labor Day weekend rounds the corner.

Cynthia Nixon Brings Sex to Broadway by Nazmiyal Antique Rugs

Cynthia Nixon Brings Sex to Broadway

With the recent string of everyone’s favorite “New Yorkers” undergoing new career paths, it comes as no surprise that Sex and the City’s very own Miranda, Cynthia Nixon, will be gracing us, real New Yorker, on the Broadway stage.

Savage Beauty by Alexander McQueen by Nazmiyal Antique Rugs

Savage Beauty by Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen was easily one of the most innovative and thought-provoking artists in recent times. Not only was he a fashion-designing force to be reckoned with nor was he a “perfect pair” to the likes of Lady Gaga.

Diner en Blanc Comes to NYC by Nazmiyal Antique Rugs

Diner en Blanc Comes to NYC

Ever heard of it? Neither have we until this week. Here’s the 411: Parisians have been secretly holding out on us about some serious dining dish for the past 23 years. Dîner en Blanc is an annual guerilla-style event where thousands of diners fully dressed in their finest threads of white and only white come together in an undisclosed public space, bring their own tables, chairs, food, and of course, copious amounts of booze, set up shop, dine, and destroy the evidence come midnight without as much as a single bread crumb. Mission impossible? I think not!

Stolen Picasso Tete De Femme Painting

Was it Mr. Green in the foyer with the candle stick? Perhaps, it was Professor Plum with the oven mitt in the study? Or maybe it could have been Colonel Mustard with the ketchup bottle in the underground speakeasy? Whoever did it, the point is, someone has stolen a valuable piece of work straight off the wall of a San Francisco gallery.

New York Architectural Design Face Lift by Nazmiyal Antique Rugs

New York Architectural Design Face Lift

Well, well, well, here we meet again with the ongoing issue facing post-modern New York’ers and the anti-gentrification generation of city-dwellers. In one of my past posts, I slightly skimmed the surface of the futuristic face lift creeping up on what seems like every corner of New York City. These days, the average slice-of-pie eating, get-out-of-my-way-attitude wielding, and fashion savvy tote bag and boat shoe wearing New York’er can’t seem to walk down a single street without seeing some serious scaffolding surrounding a skyrocketing structure of steel and style. (Holy alliteration on that sentence, Batman!)

Anthony Caro Sculptures at the Met by Nazmiyal Antique Rugs

Anthony Caro Sculptures at the Met

Am I writing another post about rooftops? You bet I am! I couldn’t help but share this! Check out Antony Caro’s sculptural exhibition atop the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If the Met’s blurb about this exhibition calls Caro, “…the most influential and prolific British sculptor of his generation and a key figure in the development of modernist sculpture of the last sixty years…” he has to be a big deal, right? Well, the good news is Caro’s work brings modern sculptural genius straight to Manhattan sitting perfectly atop NYC’s iconic museum.

New York's Hottest Rooftop Bars And Lounges by Nazmiyal Antique Rugs

New York’s Hottest Rooftop Bars And Lounges

The dog day’s of summer are finally lurking around every corner where one can’t walk down the street without seeing a Mister Softee truck peddling the summer staples of dipped cones, popsicles, and your favorite cartoon character in its purest creamy frozen form. We, New York’ers, braved the cold months of snow-pocalyps’es, layers of thermal “heat tech” undergarments, and bulky parkas galore which can now be vacuum-sealed and stored under our beds.
