Current times and modern trends are focusing more and more on minimizing one’s carbon footprint by ditching energy-consuming lighting and appliances, excessive waste, and non-recyclable materials. We live in a time and society that has made going green super trendy and equally affordable.
LED lighting is all the rage when it comes to modern interior design trends. Gone are the days of fluorescent or incandescent bulbs, and today, we are focusing on beautiful light fixtures that will cut costs, live-longer, and save the planet. Isn’t that what we all want eventually?
LED lights are coming in array of beautiful fixtures that add a soft touch to home lighting mixed with the pro-longed lifespan that these puppies have outlasting regular bulbs by years!
Another hot trend is incorporating recycled materials or vintage finds into home design decor. Wood fixtures and flooring are a definite target when it comes to revamping the sustainable home, whether you’re rockin’ the recycled oak, teak, bamboo, or drift.
Not only are these great materials for going green but have a sense of history that outshines the modern-day veneer finishes of common wooden fixtures and staples.
Vintage and antique finds are prime example of reusing the already existing pieces of furniture and decorative items that have a true sense of life. Incorporating such finds are an easy way to boast true one-of-a-kind pieces that will have all of your house guests turning heads in pure wonder.

Waterstudio’s Sea Trees Eco-Friendly Architecture
Imagine you’re taking a nice stroll on a cool summer day along the water in Battery Park watching tourists pose with the Statue of Liberty and the slew of joggers getting their daily dose of cardio. As you look towards the water, you see the iconic New York landmark staples and take in Staten Island from afar.
All of a sudden, deep in the water, you see what can only be billed as a “sea tree”.
You may ask, “what the heck is a ‘sea tree’?”
Well, Dutch architectural firm, Waterstudio, is labeling these bad boys as floating ecosystems smack dab in the middle of a body of water.
Waterstudio is in the midst of creating these breathtaking offshore eco-systems akin to oil rigs. The whole point of “sea trees” is to create a beautiful living space for animals, underwater and above-ground, to set up shop and revel in a pristine untainted habitat.
These architectural jaw-droppers are ambitious, but totally doable and AWESOME! Waterstudio fully believes that they can build these eco-structures planning on dropping them in heavily-populated urban areas like New York City.
Using off-shore drilling structures as the basic foundation and inspiration for the construction of the “sea trees,” Waterstudio is in the works of putting these puppies into action. Each structure is estimated to cost 4.5 million dollars depending on space, size, depth of water, and a multitude of architectural logistics.
“Sea trees” could definitely be the future of architecture and design creating a man-made jungle on the watery outskirts urban jungles. Next, we will all be gallivanting on these eco-friendly monuments a la “Avatar”. Sharpen your machete, put on your Indiana Jones fedora, and get ready for the future of sustainable living!
