Antique Serapi Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – On this classically elegant antique Serapi rug, a star-like medallion in shades of red, green, and blue hovers at the center of a soft red field, surrounded by delicate vines and palmettes in soft green. Ivory corner-pieces complete the field design, but filled with elements whose colors repeat the palette of the medallion and field. The vine-scroll border also recapitulates the details of the field as well as the rich blue of the outer medallion, to produce a harmonious yet powerful frame for the monumental scale of the central design.
