Antique Tribal Persian Malayer Hamadan Rug, Country Of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1900 – This elegant antique Persian rug, a Malayer  carpet,is remarkable in its use of the same basic pattern to comprise all the elements of the field. The medallion, corner-pieces and the ground are all built up on the Herati design rug; only the orientation and coloration of the elements vary, but this is sufficient to make the different areas appear to contrast. Conversely, the borders do utilize different motifs, but their color and graphic detail make them relate closely to the medallion and corner-pieces. Through this subtle manipulation of form and tonality, the antique rug achieves a unified but varied and dynamic effect.
