Each medallion is elaborately articulated with interior detail, as are the reciprocal concave trapezoidal spaces defined by the medallions. A monumental border made up of geometric palmettes and angular vines frames the field. But all this lavish complexity is effectively restrained or mollified by the soft, tone-on-tone coloration, which causes much of the detail to recede from view, making this a highly decorative carpet.
